A Golding Moment @ Ritz Carlton KL

October 12, 2016

Kuala Lumpur is like an old acquaintance you rarely call upon. Maybe it's the familiarity that keeps the distance or maybe it's the notorious traffic but it is definitely one of those destinations you don't revisit without a specific purpose. In August this year we found 2 reasons to return to the capital city of Malaysia.

The Ritz Carlton KL is the 3rd Ritz Carlton I've reviewed earlier in my career, the first being the RC Millenia in Singapore followed by the RC Bali, now the Ayana Resort. The RC KL is owned by YTL Hotels, which also owns the Majestic and JW Marriott in KL as well as a string of resorts like Tanjong Jara and Pangkor Laut. Within a year I've visited all these properties and hold many memories of them. It is therefore very nice to receive an invitation to revisit the newly renovated Ritz Carlton KL which has recently undergone a major facelift and had emerged resplendent.

In reciprocity, we pitched a celebrity interview and photo shoot at the hotel to complement the review. We considered a few options before settling on Henry Golding, a television host I must confess I was not very familiar with, as I am sure he probably knew nothing of LCO or me as well. Henry's agents in Singapore and I however, went way back so they took a leap of faith with our new start up and readily agreed to an interview and shoot as proposed.

Upon meeting Henry at the hotel, it became clear why he is one of the most popular rising personalities in the regional set. He is tall, has great presence and possesses the easy charms of the proverbial celebrity guy next door. Helps greatly also that he's a living specimen of that exotic Euro-Asian genetics that produces some of the best lookers around. He gets excited squeals of recognition everywhere we went.

Our shoot didn't exactly start as smoothly as I had hoped but suffice to say it ended on a high note with some great pics of Golding dressed in Kenzo at the RC KL. Three days with the lad has convinced me that his most valuable asset is actually his keen intelligence, which for me after years of brushing shoulders with celebrities, is a rare trait in his field.

Golding had recently married his lovely bride Liv in his mother's hometown of Kuching and looked really dapper in a blue tux he had tailored in KL. A very bright future lies ahead for the newly weds and LCO wishes them both a splendid and blissful journey ahead.

Henry Golding looking really suave in Kenzo @ Ritz Carlton KL's The Library, packed to the brim with volumes of books but is really a gorgeous fine dining restaurant.

Another frame we didn't pick up. I like his expression but suspect he was probably thinking out loud along the line  of  'dude, do you know what you are doing?'

This was what we really wanted to indulge on but the RC kept us so well fed all day there really wasn't any space for durians over the trip.
