INTERCONTINENTAL dANANG
SUN PENINSULA resort
DANANG, VIETNAM
In our search for Vietnam's best hotels, we checked into IHG's flagship in Danang. In the country that often boasts the faraway Amanoi and the stupefyingly colonial Metropole Hanoi as its top offerings, Intercontinental Danang has been bewilderingly under the radar for far too long. Deserving of more recognition and accolades, this Bill Bensley designed resort is nestled between a nature reserve and a handsome bay just 45 mins from the UNESCO heritage site of Hoi An. In a location that is easily accessible from the city yet a world apart, Intercontinental Danang wasn't exactly raised along the blueprints of the chain, with an uncharacteristic excess of architectural flourishes and exotic milieu. The services rendered here are also ambitiously lofty, with butlers attending to all its penthouse and villa guests and a surprising array of outlets, which highlights include a private 3-D cinema, a 8-suites Harnn Heritage Spa, a Bastien Gonzalez Mani-Pedi studio and a Pierre Gagnaire fine dining restaurant La Maison 1888. One can fill the days here trying everything at least once, or disappear behind the lavish confines of the suites and villas, wanting for nothing more than the beauty and privacy they afford.
